Doesn’t God live In Heaven?

Yes and no. When we were children, we are told that God is in heaven. The Bible gives us many passages to verify that to be true.

  1.  God called to Hagar out of heaven – Gen 21:17
  2. Abraham acknowledged the LORD God was of heaven – Gen 24:7
  3. Jacob dreamed of a ladder that reached to heaven and he saw God standing above it – Gen 28:12-13
  4. Moses stated that God is in heaven – Deut 4:39
  5. Jesus taught us to pray, Our Father which art in heaven – Luke 11:2

However, God is not limited to heaven. He also dwells upon this earth that He, by His wisdom and His Word, created. The Creator’s desire is to lovingly interact with man, to help him see “the bigger picture” reality from an eternal perspective.

And what is this reality?

Man has fallen from his original state of existence by sin, rebellion against a holy God. And since that holy, perfect God lives in heaven man is shut out by…

  1. the result of sin
  2. the nature of sin
  3. the ultimate penalty of sin – death

The only way man can enter into heaven sinless is for God to enter earth to remove our sins from us. Sin can not become “non-existent” or just invisibly erased, so sin had to be placed somewhere… and that somewhere is on Himself in the person of Jesus Christ on the cross. Sin brought death, and Jesus fulfilled that death sentence for man.

What does that mean to me?

When you, I or anyone by faith believes God concerning Jesus on a personal level, God credits to him or her His own righteousness. With God’s righteousness, we cease to be sinners in the eyes of the God of heaven. We now have the credentials to enter heaven.

What proof or seal do we have of this transaction?

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?                                                                      –  1Corithians 6:19

When we by faith personally accept this truth from God’s Word into our lives, God not only gives us His righteousness , but He also takes up residence within us via His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the seal the child of God has until his faith become sight and enters that blessed land, heaven.

Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.    -2 Corithians 1:22

So we see that God not only lives in heaven and earth, but also in every saved person as His temple. Have you accepted God’s offer of substitution? Him taking your sins… and you receiving His righteousness. Do it today. We are not promised tomorrow. Call on Him and tell Him you believe Him concerning His salvation for you, then accept it personally into your heart.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.    –  Romans 10:13
